GEO Detainees Pick Up Flurry of Awards

Monday, October 7th, 2013

Two facilities operated by The GEO Group UK Ltd have picked up 11 awards between them at the Koestler Trust Awards 2013.

Pieces of art by Detainees at Harmondsworth and Dungavel Immigration Removal Centres were among the 8,000 entries submitted this year, winning 3 Silver, 3 Bronze, 1 highly commended and 4 commended awards.

Joanne Henney, GEO's Director of Operations, said:

"I am delighted that those in our care have received such recognition for their work. Art and Craft is very popular among our Detainee population, and I am always amazed at the level of talent they have. We invest a huge amount of time and effort into nurturing this talent and it is therefore always pleasing when it is recognised in this way."

The Kostler Trust, a well-known arts charity for those in custody, has been exhibiting and selling artworks by offenders, detainees and secure patients for over 50 years.

Some of this year's entries, including a piece from Harmondsworth entitled Facinet, are on display at the Royal Festival Hall until 1 December.

More details can be found on the Koestler Trust website.
